Back home after a week of holidays in the awesome and multifaceted city of Barcelona...
The first mention of a (meat) market in this place goes all the way back to... 1217 !
Then, there was a pig market... And then, a fish market...
Today, La Boqueria is the location of a great public market where you can find more than fish and meat !
The building accomodating it has been built under the direction of the architect Mas Vila during the 1840s.
In 1853 is inaugurated a flower market, with 13 shops. Half a century later (1911), a new fish market emerges.
The metallic roof has been erected in 1914. You can still see it today if you walk on the Rambla (the great promenade).
